Selina of Sussex 1818-1886

Selina Page née Westgate - Leonard's great-great gandmother

Selina Westgate was born in the Sussex village of Ripe on 17th August 1818. As a young girl she heard the story of Selina, Countess of Huntingdon, and prayed that God would give her something special to do as he had her namesake. In 1837 she married Eli Page, the son of a yeoman farmer from nearby Hellingley. With Selina by his side Eli’s farming activities developed from a smallish acreage off Camberlot Road, Dicker, to a larger farm with near Stonegate and finally to Perching Manor Farm, Fulking, just north of the South Downs.  After Eli was called by God to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Selina took over even more responsibility in the home and farm whilst bringing up to adulthood thirteen of her fourteen children.

In this story of her life Selina reveals many of her hopes and fears and through it all shines her vital personal faith and trust in Jesus Christ
